2013 Jan 25

Christine Hoffman, of Alexandria is one of many students to receive scholarships from the University of Minnesota, Morris for the 2012–13 academic year. Hoffman is the recipient of the Gertrude Gaffney Hanlon Memorial Scholarship, Karyn Nielson Memorial Scholarship, and the Phi Mu Delta Scholarship.

Established in 1993, this scholarship provides financial assistance to students at UMM, preferably women of Irish heritage. This scholarship was established by Judy Nielson '72 and the late Gregg Nielson '70 in memory of their daughter Karyn, a UMM legacy student who died in 1993 as the result of a horse-riding accident. It is awarded to students who share Karyn's passion for community service, church activities, and volunteerism.

UMM Phi Mu Delta alumni endowed this scholarship in 2004. It is awarded to juniors or seniors who demonstrate Phi Mu Delta's "Three S Philosophy" of service, scholarship, and social contributions.
